Here is my interview by the lovely Candance of Yoga By Candace...

Today we are chatting with Anna Domi from Fitglow Beauty, a natural beauty company that creates effective, easy-to-use products for women with an active lifestyle.

YBC: Tell us about Fitglow Beauty. What is the business and what is your role? Can you give me a quick overview of your personal and educational background?

Fitglow Beauty started a decade ago as a dream of wanting to create natural, effective and easy to use products for women with an active lifestyle. I grew up in Europe and always believed that we are what we eat and that our skin is just an extension of that. I started in school with visual arts with a huge passion for painting but realized that my pretty pictures would probably not pay my bills so I used my athletic background to get certified as a personal trainer to put myself through business school. I spent over a decade working in technology while continuing to live an active lifestyle … discovering most cities that I traveled to while jogging early in the morning before my meetings. While trying to reach my corporate goals “real job” I continued to further my knowledge in natural nutrition, formulating and skin. As little passion projects, I helped create products for other brands and did makeup for friends' wedding or photo shoots. Makeup always inspired me as much as painting a piece of art and working on skincare formulas got my nerdy brain going. A few years ago, my life changed dramatically as I was rear ended by a car while being stopped at a red light. Suffering from spine and nerve damage I was very restricted from my normal life of work, travel and fitness so I dug in and to help me deal with daily migraines and pain, I actually slowly started to work on a few products as a distraction. This revived my old dream of wanting to create my own line and now it was not only allowing me to do what I always wanted to do but also heal. So I know this is a much longer overview but I think its important to know that just because you are not living the dream right away, the sum of your life and experience will help you get there. My art inspired my makeup. My personal training inspired the healthy, natural and performance in Fitglow. My business background inspired the drive and understanding on how to get this done.

Story behind the name… I get asked all the time how I came up with the name Fitglow and most people that know me think that it is from my fitness background. The glow you get after a great yoga session or workout. Actually Fitglow to me has always been about the glow you get when you feel like you fit in or feel good in your skin. Moving multiple countries early in my life and not speaking the language or being part of the communities always made me feel like a bit of a misfit. I feel that we are always too judgmental and hard on each other. So my goal with Fitglow is always to make my customers feel great and lift confidence so they can step into their world feeling great. When we feel great we have more confidence and sometimes that leads to taking the next great step in life.

YBC: Should we all be conscious of what’s in our beauty and skincare products?

Our skin is the largest organ and absorbs what we put on it so it is important to make clean choices in our beauty and skincare products. We sometimes take so effort to eat organic or healthy but forget that some of the items that are suppose to make us look good can actually be very toxic.

YBC: Can you tell our readers about the ingredients that go into your products. What makes Fitglow stand out from other skincare and beauty products?

My rule with ingredients is that if it’s not safe to eat at that level then it should not be in the products. I focus on natural, organic and local as much as I can, but also non-irritatating to sensitive or rosacea skin. Having sensitive rosacea prone skin plus approaching 40 makes me very selective in what goes into each formula especially making sure that the ingredients are stable. All the products are super packed with vitamins, antioxidants as well as skin soothing ingredients that are designed to deliver results without being complicated. There is no scent added so the products smell just like the ingredients that go into it. One thing that always stands out to my customers is that Fitglow products absorb quickly and are easy to blend. I think that’s very important as it reduces the time it takes to get ready and most of us do not have time to wait around until our creams absorb. Fitglow started in skincare and grew into makeup so I take extra care to make sure everything works together to deliver results with ease.

YBC: Can you tell us about the Just Beautiful Pledge and why Fitglow jumped on board?

The Just Beautiful Pledge is a commitment to stick to clean ingredients in products and the Environmental Defense group reviews all products before approving the pledge. It was important to have Fitglow Beauty part of the Just Beautiful Pledge as it confirm our commitment plus grows the community to clean beauty companies.

YBC: We love that Fitglow is cruelty free! Instead, your friends and family have been brave enough to help test your products. Do you have any memorable moments or funny stories from the testing phase you’d like to share with our readers?

I love my fur kids and have always had a passion for animal wellbeing so being cruelty free is a key pillar for Fitglow. My friends and family have been very supportive in my venture, plus it doesn’t take much to get my friends to agree to spend the day playing with makeup or skincare. I think this has become of the favorite times in my circle and we have done some many fun things. Since performance of the products is just as important as the ingredients we have done mini Fitglow Beauty Games to test the new foundation. Starting the full day with a run, then paddle boarding, yoga, and a finish with a dip in natural hot springs and let me tell you - not only did the new formula last, but we had a blast.

YBC: Tell our readers how they can join you in the fight to stop animal testing.

You can join the fight to stop animal testing by shopping cruelty free companies and join the petition www.leapingbunny.org .

YBC: What’s your greatest accomplishment outside of work?

I feel very lucky that my work now actually allows me to accomplish some of things that I always wanted to do including giving back more and helping with various animal wellbeing and women's groups. I feel it's important to do good and give back but sometimes I felt that I needed to do it on a much larger scale and that felt impossible to accomplish or start so now I try to do something every week to create a positive impact.

YBC: What’s next? What does the future of Fitglow Beauty look like through your eyes?

I’m excited to continue to build what I have started with Fitglow Beauty and as we grow I would like to create more healthy life style products plus an education part to the brand. I would love to see Fitglow Beauty grow into a go-to brand for active women.

YBC: Do you have a favorite product from your line? If so, what and why?

That’s a hard question as I’m very passionate about all the products but there are a few that are heroes to me. Since I have super sensitive rosacea prone skin, the calm cleansing milk is great as it removes all makeup and grime without stressing my skin. The redness rescue cream is a daily must as it reduces inflammation and neutralizes redness immediately. Super C Serum is a major dose of antioxidants that wake up skin. And for makeup….. Organic Good Gloss as it's super moisturizing, glossy and not sticky.

YBC: What would someone be surprised to know about you? What are your passions outside “the office”?

I cook when I am stressed and I mean I really get my cook on. I will cook four plus course meals and take over all of the space in our kitchen. For passions, I love anything that gets me outside especially activities on the water like paddle boarding or snorkeling plus taking the furkids somewhere fun.

YBC: And lastly, just for fun, what’s in your gym/yoga or travel bag? Any products you can’t live without? How about your favorite current jam?!

I travel a lot right now so I do feel like I’m constantly living out of a bag. So here are the few things that are in my bag:

  • Vega Sport Bars – cause I am no good to anyone when I’m hangry!

  • Skipping rope and homemade organic mat spray

  • Hair elastics – my hair always ends up in a ponytail

  • Flawless on the Go kit – new Fitglow mineral foundation and bronzer in a refillable brush

  • Mini Sea Toning mist – keep my skin hydrated when I travel

  • Too many Lululemon and Karma pants and tops

  • Green tea mints

Current Jam.... hmm too many as I love music but here are a few that I have on EVERY playlist

Baby - Rudimental / Beautiful - Snoop Dog / Paper Chase - Clara Hill/ Oceans - Hillsong /Notorious B.I.G - Juicy

Plus Free at Last by my super talented friend Sophie Sarafino.
